In 2022 Groundwork East launched Home Grown – our family growing course.  We engaged with over 1200 families with young children and taught them how to grow their own fruits and vegetables at home.  Having this knowledge is not only a valuable life skill but incredibly beneficial to a family’s physical health and wellbeing.  With young families across our communities facing multiple challenges – the rising living costs, food poverty on the increase and the need to respond to the climate crisis – we recognised the importance of making information and support freely available.

We are now looking for partners, who share our commitment to building resilience in our communities, to work with us to help give these empowering skills to more families over the 2023 growing season.  Being able to do something tangible to support families who are struggling is a great feeling.

What is Home Grown?

It is an online course that support families to learn to grow and  cook food together.  Running between February and September we provide families with:

  • A free grow pack, that contains everything they need to get started
  • Bi-weekly sessions and newsletters, taking them through the steps to growing food at home and packed full of useful information, how to videos, resources, recipes, craft activities and more
  • Access to a private Home Grown Facebook group so they can share thoughts, progress and ideas.

You or your organisation can help by becoming  a sponsor to enable us to make the growing pack available free to all families.  Each pack costs £30 and sponsorship can be any size you wish.  (25 packs £750, 100 packs £3,000, 250 packs £7,500).  As a pack sponsor your support will be acknowledged when distributing your packs.  You can choose to specify in which towns or local communities your sponsored packs will be given to or leave that to us.  Any value of sponsorship will help more families benefit from the programme.

Let’s talk…

We would be very grateful if your organisation would consider being involved.  Please see the PDF attached for more information, but do get in touch if you would like to learn more about Home Grown or the sponsorship details.  We would also be delighted to meet with you to share samples of the materials, case studies and feedback from the 2022 programme if appropriate.
